Myshirtone – I Slapped Ouiser Boudreaux parish 1989 T-Shirt

 Indie musician Claud Mintz, who performs under the name Claud, gives the bedroom-pop sound a decidedly queer edge, with songs like “Wish You Were Gay” functioning as de facto anthems for lazing around and drinking coffee with your crush (or, perhaps more accurately, drinking coffee alone while you yearn). Their music is alternately wistful and witty, featuring breakup-adjacent lyrics like “You like drinking and then taking things apart,” and “Call your phone you never answer/ Missing out on endless banter.”

Claud began releasing music under the pseudonym Toast in 2018, but the last year has been big for them, to say the least; not only were they the first artist to sign on with Phoebe Bridgers’s record label Saddest Factory, but their first full-length album—titled Super Monster—is also out on February 12. Last week, Vogue spoke to Claud about the new album, their pandemic rituals, and the sense of worth they hope to instill in listeners.
